~For Our Companion at The Bridge~
They come to us be it for a brief moment, or a lifetime
They share our homes, our hearts and our Love:
AND WE WELCOME THEM
They are such loyal friends, these little ones
Faithful; protective, so Loving and giving, forgiving:
They provide joy with every step
Cause us to smile with a mere flick of their tail;
AND WE GIVE OURSELVES TO THEM
We give all of what we have
Be it just a moment, or a lifetime-
All they want in return is our Love
Shown with warmth, good food, and a gentle pat-
AND THEY BECOME PART OF US
Then there comes a time when our little friend
is comfortable and happy no more-
For they have all shown us what we need to see-
How to LOVE; Unconditionally-
AND WE ACCEPT THIS
For now they are asking one thing of us
To let them go-release them from their pain and suffering
~One Final Act Of Love~
AND WE MUST ACCOMODATE THEM
*AND THEN THEY BREAK OUR HEARTS*
A shattered heart is never again made completely whole
For when our little ones depart
They take a piece of US with them
Leaving a hole in our hearts;
For they, too, want to hold fast the memories
of the Love we gave to them
They ask for nothing more; nothing less-
Just Our Loving arms encircling them
In their Final moments
As they pass beyond This World to the Next_
AND WE GRIEVE SO DEEPLY FOR THEM
But they are no longer in pain;
Their suffering is no more
Running healthy and whole
Forever free At The Rainbow Bridge~
Until
Once again
WE are united..........
AND THEY WELCOME US
