Gone But Not Forgotten

Original Posting

Will was found on Friday laying in the drive way of a local citizen. Will was about frozen to death. He was unable to stand. Will has severe injury to his face. In the last two days with evaluation it appears that Will was most likely hit by a car in the past and his back left leg was broken as well as his jaw. Will's mouth will not open more than an inch. It appears that the injuries to his face are most likely a secondary injury due to his condition. Will feels like a skeleton. He has no body fat. It appears that his jaw healed which prevented him from opening his mouth and he has literally starved because he can't
open his mouth. When Will was brought to the shelter he rank alot of water. He can eat somewhat but it is very difficult for him. He can only eat dry small kibble and he swallows it whole. Will cannot eat soft food and you can't force feed him because his mouth won't open. Plus you can't put meds in him. We have been giving him injectable very well.

He appears to be 4-5 years old. He has been neutered if you can believe it. So at sometime in his life he was someones loved
pet we hope. We just wonder where they are now?!

Will appears to be a chow/spaniel mix. He is a medium sized boy. He doesn't weigh much now but would probably top out around 40 pounds or so. Will's tail never stops wagging. He is not ready to quit trying to live. That's why we named him "Will". This dog has a strong will to live and there is not
much we can do for him at the shelter.

We need someone to sponsor him to go to the vet for a physical exam. Depending on his diagnosis he will need possible surgery for his mouth. We can't go forward with
anything until his mouth is examined and fixed. If anyone can help please let us know asap. We can only give him a few more days in this condition...NOT because we don't want to but we feel that he is suffering because he has trouble eating.

SPONSOR HAD CALLED IN PAYMENT FOR FULL VETTING OF THIS 5 YR. OLD !!!! I SPOKE WITH ASHLEY, THE SHELTER MANAGER, WHO TOLD ME HE WAS DOING FINE AND WAS 'SPUNKY' EVEN THO' HE HAD A BROKEN LEG AND A DISLOCATED JAW. SHE SAID HE WAS BARELY ABLE TO EAT. HE WAS FOUND COLLAPSED IN A STRANGERS DRIVEWAY AND WAS VERY THIN. THE ORIGINAL EMAIL SAID HE HAD TO BE PRIED OUT OF FROZEN ICE. LOOK AT HIM AND TELL ME IF HE LOOKS LIKE HE CAN WAIT 5 MINUTES TO SEE A VET. . I TOLD HER HE WAS SUFFERING AND COULD NOT WAIT ANOTHER DAY. SHE WAS ADAMANT AND SAID SHE COULD (WOULD) NOT BRING HIM IN TILL THE NEXT DAY WHEN ALL THE OTHER DOGS WERE GOING TO VET.

'WILL DIED' THAT NIGHT.

He didn't make it till the next day

Last thoughts of an abandoned puppy

I haven't been on Earth too long.
I'm not sure that I like it.
My mommy made my life real nice -
She kept us warm and fed.

But now beside this cold, wet road,
My little paws are frozen.
My sister tried to run across,
And now she's out there dead.

Why did my people take us here?
The car was real exciting.
But then they stopped and set us
On the shoulder by this bridge.

And then they left - they drove away!
We howled and cried and pleaded
Until we saw their taillights
Disappear over that ridge.

My belly burns with hunger
And I can not feel my nose now.
The dark is getting darker
Than any dark I've seen.

I'm just a baby puppy
And I do not understand much -
But one thing that I've learned real good
Is people can be real mean.

Rest in Peace Sweet Baby
