A Hug From Heaven

When you feel a gentle breeze
Caress you when you sigh
It's a hug sent from Heaven
From a loved one way up high.

If a soft and tender raindrop
Lands upon your nose
They've added a small kiss
As fragile as a rose.

If a song you hear fills you
With a feeling of sweet love
It's a hug sent from Heaven
From someone special up above.

If you awaken in the morning
To a bluebird's chirping song
It's music sent from Heaven
To cheer you all day long.

If tiny little snowflakes
Land upon your face
It's a hug sent from Heaven
Trimmed with Angel lace.

So keep the joy in your heart
If you're lonely my dear friend
Hugs that are sent from Heaven
A broken heart will mend.

A Face in the Clouds

We looked towards the clouds today and for a moment saw your face,
And wondered just where you have gone, with a hope it's a better place.
Did you show yourself to us today, to tell us you're alright?
Or was it just a daydream, playing tricks upon our sight?
Then we thought of when you left, you did not say a word,
No hugs and kisses.. no good-bye was heard.
You have changed our lives forever, your time here not in vain,
And hope you know we always tried to keep you safe from pain.
We will always feel the void inside, because you are not here,
But each new thought you send our way lets us know you're always near.
So until our journey nears its end, and we hear the angels sing,
We'll face each new day as it comes, and live off the love you bring.

Old Dog in a Locket

Old dog in a locket
That lies next to my heart,
I will always love you
As I did right from the start.
You were right beside me
Through the darkest of my days,
It was your kind and gentle nature
That made me want to stay.

Now I hold you in my arms
Your breath still warm against my hand,
Our hearts still beat together
And I wonder if you understand.
Through the hours that I held you
Before the light did leave your soul
I knew a way to keep you
Forever in my hold.

I snipped the hair from around your eyes
So I would always see
The beauty that surrounds me
Even in times of need.
I snipped the hair from around your ears
So I would always hear
Music in the distance
To quiet any fears.

I snipped the hair from across your back
To bring me strength in times of need
And the power of your essence
Would always be with me.
I snipped the hair from around your heart
That beats in time with mine
So I would know that love would find me
At some distant time.

And so your life slipped out of mine
On a quiet, spring-like day
But I knew that part of you
Was always here to stay.
Old dog in a locket
That lays next to my heart
I will always love you
Even though we had to part.

Room in Your Heart

Sorrow fills a barren space,
you close your eyes and see my face.
I think of times I made you laugh,
the love we shared, the bond we had.

The special way I needed you,
the friendship shared by just we two.
The day's too quiet, the world seems older,
the wind blows now a little colder.

You gaze into the empty air,
and look for me, but I'm not there.
I'm in heaven and I watch you,
and I see the world around you too.

I see little souls wearing fur,
souls who bark and souls who purr.
Born unwanted and unloved,
I see all this and more above.

I watch them suffer, I see them cry,
I see them lost, I watch them die.
I see unwanted thousands born,
and when they die, nobody mourns.

These little souls wearing fur,
Some who bark and some who purr.
are castaways who unlike me,
will never know love or security.

A few short months they starve and roam,
or caged in shelters nobody takes home.
My pain and suffering came to an end,
so don't cry for me, my person, my friend.

But think of the living, those souls with fur,
some who bark and some who purr.
And though our bond can't be broken apart,
make room for another in your home and heart.

If Roses Grow in Heaven

If Roses grow in heaven,
Lord, please pick a bunch for me.
Place them in my loved one's arms
and tell them, they're from me.

Tell them that I love and miss
them, and when they turn to smile,
place a kiss upon their cheek
and hold them for a while.

Because remembering them is easy,
I do it every day.
But there's an ache within my heart,
that will never go away.

A Treasured Friend

I lost a treasured friend today.
The little dog who used to lay,
her gentle head upon my knee,
and share silent thoughts with me.
he'll come no longer to my call,
retrieve no more her favorite ball.
A voice far greater than my own,
has called her to his throne.

Although my eyes are filled with tears.
I thank him for the happy years,
he let her spend here with me,
and for her love and loyalty.

Then it is time for me to go,
and join her there, this much I know.
I shall not fear the transient dark,
for she will greet me with her bark.
